Enhanced Buffer Spring
Every rifle that we build for military/LE demo use, research and development, test and evaluation, or the occasional charity gun all use action springs from our friends at Tactical Springs LLC. These buffer springs are constructed from Chrome Silicon wirestock certified to ISO 9001:2008 quality standards to withstand extreme heat and high cyclic rates. This cert ensures a minimum uniformity in the parent material of 95% which translates to repeatable consistency in performance & function. For reference, certified valve quality Chrome Silicon wire is used in very high stress racing engine applications (NASCAR, Formula One, etc.) as it’s not uncommon for valve springs to see 15,000,000 compression cycles in one race. It is this extraordinary capability that makes Chrome Silicon wire the obvious choice for action springs vs. the music wire or 17-7 PH stainless steel used in OEM springs and by most aftermarket competitors. In addition, these buffer springs are heat treated, stress relieved, and shot peened, all in separate post winding processes. Finally, each spring is treated with a proprietary, deep-penetrating, re-micronized Molybdenum-Disulfide (MoS2) formulation that eliminates 90% of all mechanical wear on the spring. This combination of premium material & engineered processes results in a loss of no more than 5% spring efficiency. The result; these buffer springs have a minimum rated duty cycle well in excess of 1,500,000 compressions. With correct selection you will have a buffer spring that works reliably, consistently, and virtually indefinitely in all properly built and maintained AR carbines.
- ASTM Grade A877 certified valve quality Chrome Silicon wirestock
- Heat Treated, Stress Relieved and Dual Stage Shot-Peened post winding
- Impregnation/Plating with Re-Micronized Molybdenum Disulfide formulation
- Hard plastic tube packaging for protected transport and easy storage
- Shortened "lock time" for faster sight recovery and platform stability
- Consistent spring pressure throughout the duty cycle of the spring potentially resulting in fewer malfunctions related to spring operation (especially type III malfunctions)
- Improved/consistent cyclic operation since spring performance does not degrade
- Greater resistance to heat induced spring deterioration
- Reduced cyclic rate with Enhanced or Extra Power springs
- Decreased operating cost due to extended replacement interval (potentially lifetime buffer spring)
STANDARD Power: Equivalent spring load to a “fresh” Mil-Spec M4 carbine spring. This spring will perform reliably in any properly configured and maintained 5.56 carbine; best choice for shooters who wish to duplicate the performance of most factory supplied new springs without concern of frequent replacement. The WHITE spring is recommended for 10.0"-11.0" SBR's with H2 Buffers, 1st Gen M&P's, older RRA's under 18"+ barrels, most Colt 6920 LE's, 5.56 & 6.8 SPC 7.5"-8.5" barreled piston guns with H2 buffers, all (known to date) .300 BLK platforms, and SRTA training and other low power and light charged “budget” rounds. Color Coded WHITE.
ENHANCED Power: Offers improved performance with most non-suppressed 12.5"-14.5" SBR's, 16" DI mid-length barrels, and all mid-length uppers with adjustable gas blocks. Best performance is usually achieved using buffers ranging from H2, DPMS extra heavy buffer, and ST-2T. Will run in 18"+ barreled RRA'S with ST-T2 Buffers, and some Colt 6920 LE's. Use of heavier buffers may not be possible with the aforementioned, as well as most uppers with light weight carrier groups. Color Coded BLUE.
EXTRA Power: Best option for 16"+ 5.56 barrels with carbine length gas systems and H buffers, 16"+ barreled gas piston guns, *some* suppressed shorties and 9mm, 6.8 SPC, 6.5 Grendel, .458 SOCOM, 450 Bushmaster, .500 Beowulf, and assorted "Thumpers" using standard 7" depth M4 extension tubes. Color Coded RED.
VLTOR A5 & RIFLE EXTENSION: In addition to use in 5.56 Fixed Stock Rifles, the “GREEN Spring” is just the ticket for use in the VLTOR A-5 Stock System using their standard weight (5.2 Oz.) buffer for maximum versatility with almost any 5.56 upper barrel configuration, both with or without a suppressor. We are such huge fans of the Vltor A5 system that we use those receiver extensions exclusively for all Umbrella builds save PDW type weapons. As a result, all of our green springs receive cryogenic processing for a very predictable and uniform performance within the weapon’s operating cycle. This computerized, ultra low temperature process (-320°F) increases the strength and wear life of the parent material through a change in microstructure resulting in less retained austenite and more uniformity in grain structure. Cryogenics effectively combats high stress cyclic rates, premature wear, and shortened spring life. Color Coded GREEN.
HOT WHITE: INTERMEDIATE POWER “HOT WHITE” Moly- Plated Chrome Silicon CARBINE Buffer Spring. Color coded White/Red
Note: Buffer should be inserted into the color coded end of the spring for fast identification once installed.
